Joel was born on February 18th, 1799.  Joel's father was John Barlow and his mother was Phoebe Bolton.  His paternal grandparents were John Barlow and Hannah Savage.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Abner, Nathan, Mahlon, Rebecca and Phoebe.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 33 on March 15th, 1832.
